On November 9th, AVG (Grisoft) provided a signature (definitions) file that contained some false information. As a part of the normal update download an error was introduced that could prove "fatal" to the computer using AVG 7 or AVG 8. This error mistakenly identifies one of the necessary root files for operation of windows to be a Trojan and suggests that it be removed. The name of the file that is suspected by the program is user32.dll.
There has been a quite a bit of buz about this on the internet and AVG provides solutions if you have followed the suggestion of the anti-virus program and deleted this "Trojan". This is not a Trojan and sould not be removed. If you have removed this file, your computer will not re-boot correctly and quite possible go into a cycle of boots. Fear not, AVG has provided a couple of ways that this can be fixed. Visit the www.avg.com/support web site for detailed instructions.
Now for the good news. AVG has this fixed in the next download (signature) file. If you are like me and don't run a full systems virus check but about once a month, you are not going to expeirence a problem. Just make sure you download and install the latest update.
Once again, if the file user32.dll is identified as a suspect file by you anti-virus software (AVG), do not delete it. Tell the program to ignore it, download and update the latest definitions and re-run the scan.
